MEXICO CITY – A Mexican judge has ordered a trial for five marines allegedly involved in the forced disappearance of a man in northern Mexico in 2013.
Mexico's navy said the five are being held in a military prison but their case will be handled by the civilian court.
Amnesty International said recently that the marines had been arrested in the disappearance of Armando del Bosque Villarreal, but the navy did not confirm that until Sunday.
Marines detained the 33-year-old Del Bosque in the town of Colombia in August 2013. Amnesty International said that when Del Bosque's father inquired at the naval base, he was told his son was being questioned, but an hour later officials denied he was there. Del Bosque's body was found weeks later not far from the base.
