A Delta Airlines jet that took off from Brazil's biggest airport en route to Detroit has made a forced landing after one of its tires was damaged during takeoff.
The Brazilian government airport authority Infraero says Delta flight 256 landed just after 1 a.m. Friday at Sao Paulo's Guarulhos airport. No one was hurt.
The tire problem was known shortly after takeoff at 10:32 p.m. Thursday. But the pilots circled over Sao Paulo for about two hours to burn fuel and lighten the aircraft for the landing, which was carried out normally on the aircraft's remaining tires.
Neither Delta nor Infraero said what may have caused one of the jets tires to blow out during takeoff.
Delta says in a statement that all passengers are being accommodated on other flights.
