BRATISLAVA, Slovakia -- Slovakia has compensated a man who unwittingly carried hidden explosives in his luggage on a flight to Ireland after a failed airport security test.

A policeman slipped 3.4 ounces of plastic explosive into the check-in luggage of an unsuspecting passenger at Poprad-Tatry Airport in a sniffing dog test in January.

But instead of being detected, the small package ended up on a flight to Dublin.

Passenger Stefan Gonda, who had not known of the explosives, was detained by Irish police for several hours.

Interior Ministry spokesman Lucia Garajova said Thursday the ministry has paid Gonda $23,130 compensation for damages he suffered.
