A 5.6 magnitude earthquake has hit off the coast of Hawaii's big island Tuesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

The afternoon earthquake struck in the Pacific Ocean about 34 miles southeast of Pahala, Hawaii.

A spokesperson for Hawaii governor Neil Abercrombie said there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, and no tsunami was generated, according to a Reuters report.

The temblor could be felt in Maui as well.
