Police in a Louisiana town rounded up 17 pit bulls that will be euthanized in five days unless their owners comply with a two-year-old pit bull ordinance, The Daily World reports.
The ordinance, which many say has only recently been enforced, requires, among other things, that owners of pit bulls have a 6- by 6-foot enclosed area with a covered top and a $100,000 insurance policy. Washington Police Chief Ronelle Broussard said the dogs' owners all were in violation of the ordinance.

The dogs were turned over to the St. Landry Parish Animal Control after they were seized by police on Monday.
Charlene Rubin, who lives in Washington, said police arrived at her home on April 23 and removed her two dogs.
"I hurt really bad," she told FoxNews.com. "It was like having a family member taken from your home."
Rubin, who was at the animal control center to visit her two dogs, said that she was in compliance with the ordinance except for the $100,000 insurance policy that will cost her $240 a month.
"To me it's not about the money," she said.
Patricia Street-Guillory, the supervisor at the animal control center, said she is working with the dogs' owners to get them into compliance and said she has no intention of euthanizing any of the dogs.
Broussard, for his part, told the Daily World that letters about the ordinance regulating pit bulls were sent out and individuals were given 30 days to comply.
Guillory said she was unaware of any incidents during the pit bull round up except for a few tears from owners.
