Chicago is investigating whether its new city sticker -- designed by a 15-year-old boy -- contains symbols of a notorious gang in the area, MyFoxChicago.com reports.
Days before the city sticker was to be printed, the city clerk’s office was alerted about a blogger who reportedly said the heart and the hands in the image are evocative of gang symbols.
The image was looked over by Jody Weis, the former police superintendent, who told the Chicago Tribune that it looks “too close to be a coincidence,” the station reported.
The picture was designed by a 15-year-old boy in a school for troubled youth who said the design was to honor first responders who rescued him from a fire when he was a child.
Susana Mendoza, the city clerk, said she’s looking into the image, which will be the first to feature Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s name.
