An 11-year-old boy has died after a 4-year-old accidentally shot him in a Lake City apartment, authorities said.
The child who was shot Sunday died Tuesday at Shands hospital at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
Lake City police were called to the Cedar Park Apartments on Sunday, where they found Jarvan Jackson injured inside one of the units.
He was in critical condition when he was taken to the hospital in nearby Gainesville. Authorities say Jarvan died at 2:47 p.m. Tuesday.
The Gainesville Sun said police and the Department of Children and Families are investigating how the younger child got the gun. They also are trying to determine whether there was adequate supervision for the children at the home.
The relationship between the children wasn't known.
