BALTIMORE – The Latest on a particularly violent night in Baltimore when six people were fatally shot and two others wounded in five separate incidents (all times local):

Baltimore police are deploying extra officers on street patrol and extending shifts to 12 hours after six people were fatally shot and two others wounded after a particularly bloody night in the city.
Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said the shootings took place between 8:20 p.m. on Monday and around 4 a.m. on Tuesday. One of the incidents was a quadruple shooting that killed two people and injured two others.
The killings bring the homicide toll to 159 so far this year. Davis described the night as "an unconscionable amount of violence in a short amount of time." Such bloodshed, Davis said, is being caused by "guns, gangs and drugs."
Davis said at a news conference on Tuesday that he conferred with representatives from federal law enforcement agencies, as well as local prosecutors.

A quadruple shooting has left one person dead and another critically injured in Baltimore.
Police said in a statement that officers responding to a report of a shooting in east Baltimore early Tuesday found four people suffering from gunshot wounds.
Police say one male victim was pronounced dead on the scene and another is in critical condition. Two other victims, a male and a female, have injuries that police say are not considered life-threatening.
The victims' identities are not yet known.
