A man suspected of fatally shooting one man and wounding two others at a crowded bar in Kansas was arrested hours later while drinking at a bar in Missouri, authorities said Thursday.

The shooting happened at around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday while people were watching the Kansas-TCU basketball game at Austins Bar and Grill in the Kansas City suburb of Olathe, said Olathe Police Sgt. Logan Bonney. He said one of the victims died at a hospital, and the conditions of the surviving victims weren't immediately known.

Police helicopters helped with the search before the 51-year-old suspect was taken into custody around 12:40 a.m. Thursday about 70 miles to the southeast in Clinton, Missouri, Bonney said.

Assistant Clinton Police Chief Sonny Lynch told The Kansas City Star that an Applebee's bartender summoned police to the bar where the man was drinking because he was talking about being involved in a shooting. The suspect was unarmed and taken into custody without incident. He was being interviewed by detectives from Olathe and was expected to be transferred to the Henry County (Missouri) Jail later Thursday.

Clinton police didn't immediately respond to a phone message from The Associated Press. Phone calls to the Olathe restaurant where the shooting happened and the Applebee's in Clinton rang unanswered.

The name of the suspect and the victims weren't immediately released. No charges have been filed.

GPS-maker Garmin, which is headquartered in Olathe, said in an email to employees that two of the three victims work or worked for the company, including the one who was killed.
