An 81-year-old woman in California died after a 14-year-old girl -- reportedly the woman's granddaughter -- hit her with her car while learning to drive over the weekend.

The girl was receiving driving lessons from her father at a mobile home park in San Jose on Saturday evening, The Mercury News reported.

Police said the teen pulled the vehicle up to their home and braked, but then accidentally stepped on the accelerator, striking Antonia Ramirez de Mendez.

Doctors pronounced her dead nearly a day later, KRON added.

Investigators said they were looking into the woman's specific cause of death.

Police have not made any arrests. California law requires that a prospective driver be at least 15 1/2 years old in order to have a learner's permit.
