Officials say part of a North Carolina prison has been evacuated after a disturbance that injured two people.

An inmate and a prison employee were treated and released from a hospital after the disturbance that began around 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Neuse Correctional Institution in Goldsboro.

A prison spokeswoman said the situation was brought under control several hours later.

Monday morning, officials said in a statement that about 500 inmates were moved to other facilities because of damage at the prison.

Prison spokeswoman Pamela Walker says the move leaves nearly 290 inmates at Neuse Correctional.

Walker says inmates set two fires during the disturbance. There were broken windows and four dorms were damaged.

It wasn't immediately clear what prompted the disturbance.

Neuse Correctional Institution is a minimum security facility.
