A statue at a Northern California college campus has come under fire as some residents near the school have questioned whether the 55-foot nude woman is appropriate public art.

CBS San Francisco reported Monday that only a pair of legs has been raised at the new San Leandro tech campus. Some residents have criticized the nude sculpture called “Truth Is Beauty.”

“You know how some people are. Some people don’t want to see nobody naked. Not even a bird,” William Eckels, a San Leandro resident, told the station.

However, others don’t see an issue with the statute. City Manager Chris Zappata said supporters of the sculpture have outnumbered opponents.

“There is a dearth of representation of women in the tech industry,” he added.” And this hopefully will start to bring attention to that problem as well as bring public art to our community.”

The rest of the sculpture is set to arrive on campus in October.
