A fast-moving wildfire in central California has led to an evacuation order in a lakeside community but it's unknown how many residents left.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says the blaze broke out shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday in the rolling hills south of Lake Nacimiento, about 230 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

It quickly grew to at least 350 acres and sent a plume of smoke over the lake.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Authorities say an evacuation order was issued for residents in the Running Deer Ranch community. It's unclear how many people fled their homes.
