A judge has ordered a psychiatric evaluation for the Pennsylvania father charged in the death of his 12-year-old daughter, who was shot by a constable serving eviction papers.

Pennlive.com reports (http://bit.ly/2ayN2Wv ) Judge Kathy Morrow on Thursday agreed with a motion by the attorney of Donald Meyer, who is charged with homicide in the death 12-year-old Ciara Meyer.

Authorities say Meyer pointed a loaded rifle at the constable on Jan. 11. Constable Clark Steele fired a shot that traveled through Meyer's arm and struck Ciara, who was standing behind her father.

Attorney Jerry Philpott says his client should be evaluated to ensure he's competent to stand trial.

The psychiatrist will also evaluate Meyer's mental state at the time of the incident.

Steele was at the Penn Township apartment to evict the family.
