Police in Tennessee say officers shot and wounded a man who wouldn't drop what turned out to be a BB pistol after a chase.

Metro Nashville police spokesman Don Aaron says 41-year-old Adrian Robinson was shot in the arm as he got out of a crashed car Thursday.

Officers began pursuing the car after Robinson fled a motel with a gun held on his wife. Aaron says that, at one point, Robinson dropped off his wife.

Robinson's vehicle crashed and he was shot after refusing to drop a pistol that turned out to be a BB gun. He was taken to a hospital for injuries that were not life threatening.

Lt. Danny Haley, Officer Andrew Ivey and Sgt. Jason Duncan were placed on routine administrative assignment while the shooting is investigated.

Robinson is black. The officers are white.
