WASHINGTON – A transportation contractor accused of billing Washington, D.C.'s transit agency for serving customers who were dead has settled a lawsuit.
The Washington Post (http://wapo.st/29jUl19 ) reports that MV Transportation settled a 2013 lawsuit in which federal and local investigators found the company charged the Metro transit authority for "canceled trips" after sending carriers to pick up riders that the company knew had died.
MV Transportation spokeswoman Nikki Frenney-Wiggins said in a statement that the company is not admitting to any wrongdoing, but will pay $184,000 for "billing errors."
The company was also accused of charging Metro for using wheelchair-accessible vehicles on trips taken by customers who didn't need wheelchairs. The $65 rate for trips requiring wheelchair-accessible service is nearly twice as much as non-wheelchair trips.
