WASHINGTON – The former chief military prosecutor at Guantanamo Bay has settled a lawsuit against the Library of Congress, which fired him after he wrote opinion columns criticizing the Obama administration's decision to try some suspected terrorists before military tribunals.
The American Civil Liberties Union announced Tuesday that retired Air Force Col. Morris Davis will receive $100,000 and a correction of his employment record to show that he was not terminated for cause.
In the final two years of his 25 years of service, Davis oversaw the prosecution of suspected terrorists at Guantanamo Bay. He retired from the military in 2007. The library hired him in 2008 to oversee research on foreign affairs, defense and trade policy issues.
A library spokeswoman said the institution would not have any comment.
