Authorities say two sheriff's deputies and a person who had been sleeping in a car parked outside a South Florida shopping plaza are recovering from injuries suffered during a confrontation.

Broward County Sheriff's officials said in a news release that the deputies were investigating the car they'd deemed suspicious early Friday when the driver suddenly backed the vehicle toward them.

Two deputies and a patrol car were struck.

The news release says at least one of the deputies fired at the vehicle. The driver appeared to have superficial wounds, possibly from shattered glass.

The injuries to the deputies were not considered to be life-threatening.

The names and race of those involved were not released.
