Ex-nurse accused of filing bogus records on patient's death

BATON ROUGE, La. – A Louisiana nurse has been arrested on charges that she falsified records about a death at a nursing home for veterans.

Louisiana Inspector General Stephen Street's office says 58-year-old Cheryl Poirrier of La Place was arrested Monday on charges of filing false public records and malfeasance in office.

A court filing says Poirrier was employed by the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs and was working as a licensed practical nurse at the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Reserve when a resident died in January 2015 several hours after falling in his room.

After the resident died, Poirrier allegedly filed reports that falsely stated she had performed four neurological checks on the man after he fell. Investigators say surveillance video showed she didn't perform any checks.
