WASHINGTON – Federal prosecutors say no charges will be filed against District of Columbia police officers in the fatal shooting of a robbery suspect in 2014.
The U.S. attorney's office said in a news release Thursday that Gregory Gray pointed a handgun at four police officers before they fatally shot him in a southeast Washington alley on the afternoon of Dec. 24, 2014. Police and prosecutors say Gray matched the description of a suspect in a robbery that had occurred nearby.
Prosecutors say analysis showed that DNA on the gun could be attributed to Gray with a reasonable degree of scientific certainty.
Police initially misidentified Gray after the shooting by relying on a photograph shown to relatives of another man instead of waiting for fingerprint confirmation.
