ARLINGTON, Va. – Train service was suspended for more than an hour on parts of two lines in the Washington area's Metro system after fire was reported in a tunnel in Arlington.
It happened a little more than a week after a power issue closed the entire system for a day.
Metro spokesman Dan Stessel says the Friday fire appears to have been debris-related and not linked to last week's shutdown. That shutdown followed a fire in a tunnel near the McPherson Square station on the orange, blue and silver lines.
Metro spokeswoman Sherri Ly says service was suspended on parts of the orange and silver lines from around 10 a.m. until 11:20 a.m.
Arlington County fire officials tweeted that firefighters extinguished a blaze in the tunnel between the Clarendon and Courthouse stations.
