Dead farm animals are washing ashore on a Mississippi beach, and a local police chief says he's at a loss to explain why they're floating in from the Gulf of Mexico.

Multiple local media outlets report Friday that two goats, a hog and about a half dozen chickens have washed ashore in Biloxi since Monday.

Police Chief John Miller says the bodies are badly decomposed and there's nothing to indicate animal cruelty. He says it's possible they drowned during flooding in Louisiana "and floated over here."

A county cleanup crew helped remove the carcasses.
