A troubled Brooklyn high school that a senior called “four years of hell” falsified student records to hide steep absenteeism, teachers charge.
Office staff routinely underreported the number of absences racked up by students at the Urban Assembly HS for Music and Art in Brooklyn, records obtained by The Post show.
A girl marked absent 76 days in a semester by her algebra teacher was listed by the school office as having missed just 11 days in the class. A student who missed 47 days was marked absent for two. A student who missed 60 days showed a final total of six.
“I have no idea where they got these numbers. It’s a lie,” the teacher said of the rampant reductions. Others cited similar discrepancies.
Attendance determines a school’s funding and is a factor in whether kids earn class credits.
