HARRISBURG, Pa. – Penn State's former president is going on the legal offensive.
Graham Spanier has filed one lawsuit that says the university violated an agreement they made when he stepped down and a second defamation claim against former FBI director Louis Freeh.
The lawsuits were filed Wednesday, about three weeks after a state appeals court dismissed several of the more serious criminal charges against him over his handling of the Jerry Sandusky child molestation scandal.
Spanier claims Penn State trustees made comments that damaged his reputation after he resigned under pressure in November 2011, shortly after Sandusky was arrested. Penn State isn't commenting.
He's also suing Freeh and two related firms for defamation based on the university-commissioned 2012 report that said he, Joe Paterno and two other top administrators concealed key facts about Sandusky to avoid bad publicity.
