An apparent murder-suicide left six people dead Wednesday in Virginia.

Police said all the victims were related, according to NBC News.

The bodies were spread among two homes in Chesapeake. After officers found one dead person inside a house, they were led to a second location where an armed individual had barricaded himself inside.

Police said they negotiated for several hours, to no avail.

“When officers made entry into the residence, five additional deceased bodies were located to include the suspect,” the Chesapeake Police Department said in a statement.

Police arrived at the first location Wednesday afternoon when they got a call to check on the welfare of an individual, WAVY reported.
