A paralyzed young black man had his suit jacket and shirt removed in court to show a federal jury the bullet scars from being shot by a sheriff's deputy.

Dontrell Stephens winced Thursday as his brother removed the clothing to reveal his wounds to the six-woman, two-man civil jury.

The 22-year-old Stephens was unarmed when he was shot in September 2013 by Palm Beach County Deputy Adams Lin, who had stopped him for riding his bicycle into traffic. Lin has said Stephens reached for his waistband and then lunged forward, making him think Stephens was about to shoot him. Stephens on Thursday denied reaching for his waistband, saying his hands were over his head when Lin began shooting.

Lin shot Stephens four times. Stephens is seeking more than $5 million.
