The wife of a northern Illinois police officer who killed himself after embezzling from a youth program has turned herself in after being indicted by a grand jury.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office says Melodie Gliniewicz turned herself in when she learned of the indictment. Office spokesman Christopher Covelli says she is being processed and taken to the county jail.
Her husband, Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz, died Sept. 1. Authorities say he staged his suicide to look like a homicide because he feared discovery of the decades of embezzlement.
Authorities say Melodie Gliniewicz served as an adviser to the Fox Lake Police Explorer Post her husband ran.
A grand jury on Wednesday indicted the 51-year-old Gliniewicz on felony counts of money laundering and disbursing charitable funds without authority for personal benefit.

A grand jury has indicted the wife of a northern Illinois police officer who authorities say killed himself after embezzling from a youth program.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office says a grand jury on Wednesday indicted 51-year-old Melodie Gliniewicz on felony counts of money laundering and disbursing charitable funds without authority for personal benefit.
A Lake County Judge issued an arrest warrant for Gliniewicz and set bond at $50,000.00.
Her attorney did not immediately respond to a voicemail and email seeking comment.
