Baltimore police say two officers shot a man who backed his SUV into their unmarked car, injuring one of the officers.

Department spokesman T.J. Smith said at a news conference Wednesday that the officers saw a suspicious SUV with three men inside.

Smith says the officers, who were not in uniform but were wearing vests marked "police," started to get out of their car when the suspects' vehicle backed up. The door was torn off the officers' car, Smith says, and the officers shot the driver. One officer suffered a leg injury.

Smith says the SUV's driver was struck in his neck and was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The men are in custody, but have not been charged.
