WORCESTER, Mass. – The lawyer for a Massachusetts woman who lived in a filthy home where the skeletal remains of three babies were found has told a judge murder charges against her are the result of "pure speculation" by prosecutors.
The Springfield Republican reports (http://bit.ly/1Jm5HT3 ) attorney Keith Halpern made the comments Thursday in Worcester (WUS'-tur) Superior Court while arguing for several charges against Erika Murray to be dropped. The judge hasn't ruled.
Murray is charged in the deaths of two of the three dead babies found in her Blackstone home in September 2014.
Halpern says there's no evidence to back up prosecutors' claims Murray severely neglected two of the children and caused their deaths. A prosecutor disputes Halpern's comments.
The case returns to court Feb. 25.
