Indianapolis police say a suspect in a domestic disturbance has died while in custody.

The Indianapolis Star reports (http://indy.st/233sCsI ) the incident happened just before 10 p.m. Thursday on the city's east side.

Police say officers responding to a domestic disturbance call located the suspect and handcuffed him.

Police Sgt. Christopher Wilburn tells the newspaper the suspect "complained of pain and a medic was notified."

Medical personnel began transporting the suspect to a hospital, but police say he died on the way there.

No further details were immediately available.

Wilburn did not immediately return a message from The Associated Press seeking comment.
