Officials at an Arkansas mall ordered a Muslim couple to leave after shoppers complained the man was recording video of store entrances on Saturday.

Alan Crawford said he and his wife, Daphne, were simply shopping at Central Mall in Fort Smith and handing out cards for a local charity. According to police, the man said he was unaware that the mall didn't allow video recordings. Speaking later to KFSM, he denied that he even took video, saying he only recorded audio when a police officer confronted him.

Police said the man wore traditional Muslim clothing, Fox 25 reports. Officers said he did not commit any crime.

“This is why you don’t trust the police,” Alan Crawford said as he left, according to the police report. “They harass people because of their religion," he added.

Other shoppers took photos of the couple, which spread on Facebook. The Crawfords said they planned to move away from the area.
