PARADISE, Calif. – Newly released audio recordings show that police in Northern California initially dismissed a man's claim he had been shot by an officer.
The Chico Enterprise-Record reported Wednesday (http://bit.ly/1IbsujI) that Paradise Police Officer Patrick Feaster didn't tell his commander for 11 minutes that he had fired his gun. The shooting happened at the crash of a suspected drunken driver Nov. 25.
In the recording, Feaster tells his commander that his gun went off, but he didn't think he shot 26-year-old Andrew Thomas.
Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey has released audio from body cameras of two officers and video from Feaster's dashboard camera.
Ramsey says he's not filing criminal charges against Feaster, finding the shooting unintentional.
The bullet struck Thomas' neck, paralyzing him. His estranged wife died from the crash.
Neither Feaster nor his attorney could not be immediately reached for comment on the case.
