3:55 p.m.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of starting a fire Friday afternoon at a Southern California mosque.

Riverside County sheriff's Capt. Andrew Shouse said Saturday that Carl James Dial Jr. could face felony charges including arson, hate crime and burglary.

Dial was taken into custody Friday night. Booking records show he is being held in lieu of $150,000 bail.

Flames were reported just after noon Friday at the Islamic Center of Palm Springs. The fire was contained to the small building's front lobby, and no one was injured.

Late Friday, the sheriff's department released a statement calling the blaze "an intentional act." Authorities provided no details on how the fire was set.

It wasn't immediately known if Dial has a lawyer.
