San Francisco police have released the names of five police officers in the shooting of a young black man that was captured on video, circulated widely online and has brought heated protests in the city.

The officers are:

— Charles August

— Nicholas Cuevas

— Scott Phillips

— Antonio Santos

— Winston Seto

The department did not release any details on the officers beyond their names.

Police say the officers shot and killed 26-year-old Mario Woods on the afternoon of Dec. 2 after he refused commands to drop an 8-inch knife he was carrying.

His family has filed a civil rights lawsuit, saying the officers needlessly opened fire in an incident

At least 100 students and other activists marched on San Francisco City Hall Friday afternoon to protest the shooting death of a young black man by police last week.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports Friday (http://sfg.ly/1O0KAHw ) that students started in the Mission District and headed toward City Hall before marching to downtown's Union Square. The lunchtime walkout called for high school students from throughout the city to protest what they called police brutality.

The student-led demonstration slowed down transit lines and temporarily blocked traffic.
