The owner of a California gun range says even church leaders should carry guns to stay safe, and he's offering to give them pointers on using firearms.

Geof Peabody tells KOVR he's actually trained more than 500 ministers and church security teams this year. He owns a gun range in Placerville, northeast of Sacramento.

“The last class that we just did which was introductory handgun training for church security members, we had nine different churches that were represented with about 25 students who came,” he told the news station.

Peabody says his training involves more than simply firing a weapon, but also how to stop attackers from firing theirs. It's not clear how much he charges for each session.

Investigators said 14 people died when married terrorists opened fire during a Christmas party in San Bernardino in early-December.
