CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – A man charged with killing two college students in Virginia is making a court appearance.
A pretrial hearing for Jesse LeRoy Matthew Jr. is set for Monday afternoon. Motions have been filed under seal, so the purpose of the hearing is unclear.
Matthew is charged with capital murder in last year's death of 18-year-old University of Virginia student Hannah Graham, whose remains were found about five weeks after she disappeared. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.
Matthew also is charged with first-degree murder in the 2009 death of 20-year-old Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington, who vanished while attending a Metallica concert at U.Va.
He's already serving a life prison term for a 2005 attempted murder and sexual assault in northern Virginia.
