Police determined late Friday that a package addressed to the home where the San Bernardino shooters lived was safe after it was inspected by a bomb squad.
San Bernardino police Chief Jarrod Burguan said a UPS driver noticed the package was addressed to the home and turned back to the facility to be safe. Burguan said the package was only clothing and it was rendered safe after a bomb squad investigation.
Burguan said earlier that the package was from a "reputable vendor" and the UPS center was evacuated out of caution. The evacuation lasted about three hours.
The facility is about a mile from the social services center where 14 people were killed by a husband and wife on Wednesday.
Fox News and other media outlets toured the Redlands, Calif. townhouse earlier Friday where authorities believe Syed Rizwan Farook and his Pakistani wife Tashfeen Malik hatched the plot to murder 14 in a San Bernardino County Department of Public building.
Diapers and children's toys were strewn about just feet away from where authorities said remote-control bombs and thousands of rounds of ammo were stored inside the home the couple shared with their baby daughter and his mother.
The landlord, who did not give his name, said the couple paid $1,200 per month to rent the apartment. He said the last time he saw the garage was more than a year ago, when the couple moved in.
