Two Lincoln, Nebraska, police officers have been wounded in a shooting that began as a traffic stop.

The Lincoln Police Department confirmed the shooting in a tweet, adding that their injuries were not life threatening.

Police say they are searching for two people who fled the scene.

The Lincoln Journal Star reported that one person may have been killed in the confrontation.

Local resident Robert Lenzen told The Associated Press that he could hear the shooting from his home and saw a person down in the street.

Lenzen said he was sitting in his living room watching television when he heard loud pops and police cars converged on the area.
