A student at a small college outside Boston was arrested on weapon and drug charges after a gun and ammunition were found in his dorm room, police said Saturday.

Milton police say Darius Boodoosingh was arrested after officials at Curry College received a tip and searched his room Friday.

"I was surprised. It's happening a lot but to happen at my college it's pretty crazy,” Josh Saulny told MyFoxBoston.com.

The Fox affiliate reported that a string of thefts on the Curry College campus led to the discovery of the gun and ammo. The students notified public safety after a campus-wide alert regarding the theft.

“Your engagement in the investigation of thefts on campus has resulted in removing an individual from our community whose behavior we do not believe in, will not tolerate, and is contrary to Curry College’s community values,” a statement sent to students said.

The statement also said the student has been placed on interim suspension.

The 18-year-old Boston was charged with carrying a firearm on school grounds as well as possession of drugs with intent to distribute. Milton police told MyFoxBoston.com the student didn’t have a license for the gun.

Boodoosingh remains in police custody and will be arraigned Monday in Quincy District Court.

College officials say they don't believe there's any threat to the campus community.
