The mayor of Ocala, Florida denied Monday that he was a member of the Ku Klux Klan, after hackers with Anonymous released a list that included him as a member of the white supremacist group.

"I can unequivocally tell you that is an absolute lie," Mayor Kent Guinn said at a news conference. The Republican is one of several politicians whose names appear on the list.

In justifying the release, Anonymous said, “You are more than extremists. You are more than a hate group. You operate much more like terrorists and you should be recognized as such."

Anonymous called it "Operation KKK." The group's hackers are widely known for targeting groups with which they disagree.

Anonymous took down several Islamic extremist-linked Twitter and Facebook accounts through “Operation ISIS” or #OpISIS, and released alleged police dispatch audio from the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri last year.
