The injures found on the body of a snorkeler who died Monday in a pond in central Florida is consistent with an alligator attack, authorities said.

Fox 35 Orlando reported that James Okkerse, 62, was snorkeling with two friends in Blue Spring State Park. He vanished and his body was found at the bottom of the channel hours later by divers from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities located a 12-foot alligator believed to be involved in the attack. It was shot and removed from the spring.
