CHICAGO – Former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert has again asked a federal judge to push back a deadline for pre-trial motions in his hush-money case.
The Illinois Republican's attorneys and prosecutors filed a joint motion Tuesday asking for another two-week extension. They asked for and were granted one last week.
The new motion also repeats that both sides are discussing issues Hastert "may raise in pretrial motions." But it offers no details.
If the motion is granted, the deadline would move from Sept. 28 to Oct. 13.
Hastert faces charges of violating banking rules and lying to the FBI after he allegedly agreed in 2010 to pay $3.5 million to someone to hide past misconduct.
His lawyer, Thomas Green, indicated previously he intended to file a motion to dismiss all charges.
