One of three 18-year-old men arrested in hurling rocks at cars with slingshots has denied that they were copying a string of freeway shootings that have put the Phoenix area on edge.

Authorities have labeled the vandalism Saturday night a copycat case. But Aaron Nottingham tells KPNX-TV (http://goo.gl/p9CNvS ) that he and his friends were just being "a few teenagers going out and having fun."

He says they were "just being dumb, and we didn't mean for anybody to get hurt."

Authorities are investigating 11 confirmed vehicle shootings, some with bullets and others with projectiles that could include BBs, pellets or rocks.

Authorities have received hundreds of tips related to the shootings, and information provided by drivers led to the arrests of Nottingham and the other two young men.
