An unarmed burglary suspect is dead after he was shot in a struggle with a police officer in the showroom of a North Texas car dealership.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office identified the dead man as 19-year-old Christian Taylor of Arlington. Taylor played football at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas.

An Arlington Police Department statement says officers were responding to a burglary call about 1 a.m. Friday when they discovered someone had driven a vehicle through a front window of the dealership.

The statement says a struggle ensued when police approached the suspect and at least one officer fired his gun. The suspect was unarmed.

The police statement said there will be independent criminal and administrative investigations.

Taylor was a 5-foot-9, 180-pound sophomore defensive back.
