GOLDSBORO, N.C. – The man leading a movement against the conservative policies in North Carolina and other states says he knows God has a sense of humor.
The Rev. William Barber says that's because even though he must walk with a cane, he's often at the front of a line of protesters.
Barber is president of the state chapter of the NAACP and leader of the Moral Monday movement that began in North Carolina two years ago. Most recently, he led 3,500 protesters as a federal trial about the state's new voting law began.
His civil disobedience tactics draw comparisons to the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. His detractors say he's repeating himself and not worth their time.
