At least two people reportedly were injured in a home explosion in St. Louis late Thursday night.
The explosion occurred near the Mississippi River in a neighborhood north of downtown, according to Fox 2 Now. The explosion destroyed one house and set two others on fire, a fire department official told the St. Louis-Post Dispatch.
The Post-Dispatch reports that two people rescued from the blast were hospitalized and were in critical condition.
At least 85 firefighters responded to the scene from St. Louis and other fire departments. Rubble covered the street in front of the houses lining the block, burying at least one car.
Neighbor Kim Smith told the Post-Dispatch that she was walking about a block away when she heard the explosion.
"When I walked up that way, I saw the front door in the middle of the street and the roof gone," Smith said. "You could hear someone screaming ‘Get me out of this basement!'"
St. Louis Fire Capt. Garon Mosby told the newspaper the cause of the explosion has not been determined. He said no odor of natural gas was detected. Bomb and arson investigators were at the scene, according to the Post-Dispatch.
