Georgia deputy cleared in fatal shooting of man who allegedly approached with knife

EATONTON, Ga. – A Georgia sheriff's deputy will not be charged in the fatal shooting of a man who allegedly approached him with a knife.

District Attorney Fred Bright said Tuesday that Putnam County sheriff's deputy Justin Brock was justified in shooting 57-year-old Harry Davis in late May.

Sheriff Howard Sills has said Davis first threw a knife at a different deputy who also responded to a fight Davis was having with relatives on a road in the city of Eatonton.

Authorities have said Brock was standing between Davis and a man he had been arguing with when Davis pulled a second knife out of his vehicle and began charging toward Brock.

Investigators have said Davis was a disabled veteran who had a history of psychological issues.
