Police say a woman has been taken to a hospital after she was slashed with a machete at Bryant Park in midtown Manhattan.

The NYPD says the woman suffered an arm injury at around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

She was hospitalized and her injuries were not life-threatening.

Police say a suspect, who's believed to be homeless, has been taken into custody. The attack was apparently unprovoked.

The popular park -- the former home of New York Fashion Week -- has seen violence before.

A November 2013 shooting at its ice rink injured two people, including a 14-year-old, and sent skaters stampeding to safety.

Police said the gunman was a 16-year-old who had tried to rob one of the victims of his coat. The suspect has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder.
