The Navy command overseeing the hospital ship involved in a mishap that damaged the USS Arizona Memorial's dock is sending investigators to Hawaii to probe what happened.

Military Sealift Command spokesman Tom Van Leunen said in an email Friday operations chief Capt. Dean Vesely is leading the investigation.

Van Leunen says investigators will arrive this weekend and begin working immediately. Vesely is based at command headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia.

The U.S. Coast Guard is conducting its own probe because civilian tugboats were involved.

The incident occurred Wednesday when two tugboats were maneuvering the USNS Mercy out of Pearl Harbor.

The Navy says waves generated by the Mercy's propeller pushed the dock toward the memorial. The Mercy may have also hit the dock.

Tours on the memorial are suspended until the dock is repaired.
