A New Jersey campus minister says he lost his job after making a pro-LGBT post on Facebook.
Rev. Warren Hall, director of Seton Hall University campus ministry, posted on Twitter that he was fired from the university for posting a picture on Facebook supporting LGBT ‘No H8.’ A shocked Hall was apologetic about the response it received.
A spokeswoman for the Catholic university told NJ.com that personnel decisions about priests on campus are directed by the Archdiocese of Newark.
"Seton Hall University does not comment on personnel matters," spokeswoman Laurie Pine said in a statement to the website. "The Archbishop of Newark appoints the Director of Campus Ministry, who serves at his discretion."
Jim Goodness, a spokesman for the Archdiocese, told the website that Hall would still serve as a priest in the diocese, but will have a new assignment.
Students called the decision “unfathomable.” One user said, “no better representative of my alma mater than you, Father.”
Hall didn’t officially give a statement about his reassignment, but did say he was “grateful for all the support” in a tweet.
